Software release policy
- Core Software
The software release development process includes extensive QA testing. This is necessary to guarantee the stability of the release, which is of a paramount importance. The date for the next software release is thus fixed in advance, and the scope of the release is adjusted according to the development stage.
The upgrade scheme is simple: A major release (release number ending with 0, e.g. 1.10, 1.20) includes everything needed for the vanilla Libera installation. Minor releases (e.g. 1.21, 1.22) include only the things that have changed from the previous release, regardless of whether it was a major or minor. Even digits (1.0x, 1.2x, 1.4x...) designate stable releases, while odd digits (1.1x, 1.3x, 1.5x...) are reserved for test releases or internal development snapshots. Therefore, to install the latest release, the user has to install the major release and all the minors in chronological order. By using ssh/rsh it is possible to automate the process of updating Libera SW. This can be done by the user.
- Generic Server
Generic Server software is released after each major release and covers the functionality of the CSPI. It is released no more than two months after the major release. It is under GPL license. In relation to the Libera Brilliance - Libera Electron Software Release and Libera Bunch-by-Bunch Software Release, there is one Generic Server release each year. The deliverables: CD with the recent Generic Server release plus sources, an updated manual and other documents, and technical support.

*The patches to linux kernel are being pushed upstream to the mainline, official linux kernel. Some patches have already been accepted, others are still in the process. Our objective is to have _all_ the patches included in the mainline kernel where they are freely available to everybody.
**The FPGA Development Kit is available under NDA and upon request. You can build your own FPGA code on Libera. Read more about the product at the FPGA Development Kit webpage! |
