| | | Many instruments. Many people. Working together.
It is my conviction that slight shifts in
perspective have more impact on living than major efforts at change.
Let me try to apply this personal view to our craft. Progress in
technology offers new ways of acquiring, processing, delivering, and
interpreting data. As a consequence, boundaries between components,
sub-systems and systems are shifting. The same is true for
relationships between companies and research institutions, on personal
and organizational levels. At Instrumentation Technologies we invite
you to take a fresh view on how many instruments and many people can
work together to bring forward new realities.

Tests performed with Libera Brilliance Single Pass In February we reported on the new single pass functionality of Libera Brilliance, enabling it to become a suitable diagnostic tool also for single pass position measurements. Libera Brilliance Single Pass can be used on linacs and transfer lines as well as in the injectors of FEL machines, where excellent performance of the diagnostic equipment is even more necessary for the demanding beam quality. We are pleased that Libera has performed with notable results, especially in the field of temperature stability and RMS.
You can read the article “Beam results with Libera in single pass mode” presented by INFN-LNF and the Elettra team at DIPAC09 and “Libera Brilliance Single Pass beam position measurements” presented by our engineers at PAC09 on our website.
Register for the 5th Libera Workshop Preparations for the 5th Libera Workshop (16–18 September) are in full swing, and we are eager to gather engineers from the accelerator community in the beautiful environment near the emerald Soca River.
You are welcome to join us if you want to:
- exchange your experience using Libera with other users;
- exchange your ideas on the future of instrumentation with diagnostics and instrumentation experts, engineers from control groups and RF systems engineers;
- assist in detailed presentations and demonstrations of Libera products; and
- know more about the future of the Libera family, and trends in technology and its implementation in Libera products.
Take a look at the detailed program and register at the Libera Workshop website.
We also invite all those who would like to present a contribution at the Friday morning session to send an email to mojca.strehar@i-tech.si.

First customer for Libera LLRF In May we informed you about the demonstration of the digital RF stabilization system at the Daresbury Laboratory on a test set-up of the EMMA FFAG RF system. We are pleased that the tests revealed high-performance stabilization capabilities in the RF field. Moreover, the flexible architecture integrated into the software proved Libera LLRF to be a valuable RF stabilization and diagnostic tool for robust and algorithmically controlled RF system operation.
The demonstration results were presented at the PAC conference. You are welcome to download the article “Evaluation of the analog and digital receiver section in the Libera LLRF system” at our website.
We are now pleased to announce that at the end of summer Libera LLRF is planned to be commissioned on the EMMA machine at Daresbury.
Do you want to build fast global orbit feedback? With different building blocks implemented, Libera Brilliance can easily be integrated into your fast global orbit feedback, thus enabling you to improve electron and photon beam stability. You can choose either between the Libera Gigabit Ethernet Interface and/or Libera Grouping, which were developed in collaboration with Elettra and NSRRC, or the Communication Controller developed by Diamond Light Source.
Read more about these options at our website.
