Three new Libera-equipped machines and the first Libera operating global orbit feedback We would like to share our enthusiasm with you about the growing Libera community and thank you for your trust. The Soleil, Diamond and Australian Synchrotron were joined by ALBA and SSRF last December, which means that all five of the latest light source projects decided to equip the whole machine with Libera. Great news also comes from GSI, where they decided to upgrade their SIS18 ring with Libera Hadron units. Andreas Peters (who in the meantime left GSI for the Heidelberg Proton Therapy Center - we wish him good luck!) commented: "First of all, congratulations to the 1000th Libera sold by Instrumentation Technologies! I hope this story will proceed with the Libera Hadron version, too..." Elettra, the first of the existing light sources that decided to upgrade the storage ring with Liberas, successfully closed the loop on March 16th. Read the message from Marco Lonza, Head of the Machine Controls Group and responsible for the Global Orbit Feedback project: "GOOD NEWS! I am glad to announce that this morning we successfully closed the loop of our fast global orbit feedback for the first time using 86 BPMs (equipped with Libera), 82 correctors and the whole fast feedback infrastructure. A PID algorithm was employed which was able to attenuate the beam noise on all of the BPMs up to about 100 Hz frequency. The upgrade of the remaining BPMs (10 more) with Libera and further work of feedback optimization will follow in the next weeks during machine shifts." Participate in further Libera development Users that are working with their Liberas daily have plenty ideas of how to make them even better. Unveiling the Libera Electron Brilliance We put a lot of effort into the Libera Electron performance optimization, DSC daemon being the most important. The gained experience together with the new hardware components now available in the market encouraged us to work on the further improvement of the analog board. We decided to design the new board from scratch. The measurement results of the first two prototypes, even if still strictly not official and very preliminary, are excellent, which promises an overall improvement of the performances. Main advancements are to be expected in an order of magnitude lower coupling between X and Y position, better beam current dependence (especially for off-centered beam), improved handling of high voltage peaks from pick-ups and the wideband resolution of the measurement. The increased dynamic range of new ADC allows less attenuation on the analog board, resulting in better S/N ratio. The upgrade to Libera Electron Brilliance will be possible.
