Upgrade option for Libera Brilliance+

Starting in 2016 all new Libera Brilliance+ instruments that are delivered to users are equipped with a newer generation processor and a long-term support (LTS) of the Ubuntu operating system, version 14.04. From the year 2017 on Libera Brilliance+ instruments will use much quieter cooling fans.

Libera Brilliance+ instruments shipped before the end of 2015 can now be upgraded to add these improvements.

The upgrade package includes:

  • A new ICB module with a new CPU module (Intel i5 3230M 2.6 GHz)

    CPU Mark old / new: 303 / 4018

  • A new operating system (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 32-bit) with the latest security patches

  • A new Libera software release (version 3.0)

  • Quiet fans (noise reduction by approximately 10 dB(A) compared to the original fans)

Your instruments will be upgraded by Instrumentation Technologies' personnel.

After the upgrade your Libera Brilliance+ will have a much higher performance when taking data on trigger and will respond faster in general.
The new ICB module also fixes the non-booting issue that was observed before. There is a 2-year warranty for the new ICB module.

The new Libera software introduces new FPGA cores and build tools as well as support for latest developments on the Libera Base framework.

EPICS update for the new Libera software is foreseen in the future, too.

Quieter fans will drastically reduce the over all level of acoustic noise generated by Libera Brilliance+ instrument.

Comparison between the old and new fans is shown in this video:
